2018 is going to be my year of rom-com.
Yes, I do understand that my life is not a movie, but it sure as heck does feel like one at times.
Some days it’s more like an action film and others a tear-jerker. When there is time it’s slightly chick-flicky, but for the most part it is drama, drama, drama with a bit of comedy and a thrill mixed in here or there — actually the biggest thrills occur about once every two years or so if you know what I’m saying.
I’ve made a decision though. I am being proactive and taking charge of my life’s genre for the new year.
Yes, for me, 2018 is going to be…
wait for it….
My year of the rom-com!
So much of 2017 was spent — scratch that, I mean wasted — with me feeling anxious or stressed. And what did that do for me? Absolutely nothing positive. Nope. And although I would like to find a way to defend my anxious nature and tendency to be stressed out, the fact is that I in no way benefited from the internal (and let’s be real, sometimes external) torture this caused me, my family, and sometimes members of the general public who happened to be in my vicinity during a moment I perceived to be challenging.
So, here’s what I am going to do.
I am going to wake up each morning and assign myself the feature role in a blockbuster romantic comedy, and I am going to work my darnedest to ensure that I squeeze any and all humor out of every situation that makes up my day.
Instead of responding to dog poop on my floor with flying curse words, I will simply laugh.
Instead of responding to my children all screaming my name at the same time with flying curse words, I will simply laugh.
Instead of responding to the growing pile of laundry and dishes with flying curse words, I will simply laugh.
Are you getting the drift? I am going to laugh my way through the rest of 2018, as I am still in the thick of parenting three young children ages 6 and under.
Life is undoubtedly going to be very busy and very hard for the next year, but I am going to decisively laugh my stress away. I am going to promise myself to look hard days right in the face and say “not today, you will not defeat me; you will not steal my joy and my moments today”.
So, what about the rom-part, you ask?
Well, far too often I neglected my spouse and our relationship in 2017. With a household full of people, dogs, and tasks all vying for mommy’s attention, my poor hubby got the shaft. In 2018, my focus will be on bringing back the romance and if and when that’s not doable, at least throwing some flirtatious comedic bones his way to keep him laughing and smiling. Maybe even engage in a booty pinch.
What do you think, can I do this?
What genre was 2017 for you?
What will 2018 bring you?
