Music. “It can change the world, because it can change people”. That’s what Bono said. Beethoven described music as “a higher revelation than all wisdom and philosophy”. In the movie August Rush, music is described as a “little reminder that there’s something else besides us in this universe; harmonic connection between all living things”. Do you know how Allison Wilkins describes music? She describes it as empowering and as ” ‘the stuff of the soul,’ which should be produced by the child within all of us”.
So, who is Allison Wilkins? Well, she is practically a celebrity here in Tampa, FL and really across the whole state of Florida. Allison Wilkins is the owner of Allisongs for Tots, a part of the Music Together® program, that has introduced millions of children, parents and caregivers to the joys of making music. Alli and the Music Together® program use research-based curriculum to teach music right here in the Tampa Bay and Sarasota areas. Can you believe that there are 3000 Music Together® locations around the world? That is amazing. That is impressive. And, you have the chance to take part in this program, right here where you live, side by side with your child, while they have the opportunity to experience the joy of music, firsthand.
Here is a little background on Alli, who is so amazing that she is so worthy of much more than one paragraph of praise I will give her now.
Allison Wilkins is an amazing woman. She is a singer, a songwriter, a mother, a grandmother, a business owner, a teacher and creative director. She is super-passionate about music and understandably, unwavering in her belief that music is extremely important to the growth and development of young children. Alli has ensured that Allisongs for Tots is consistently providing a rich musical experience for young children and their caregivers. Honestly, I cannot tell you who has more fun at her classes — the parents or the children.
Through her Allisongs for Tots classes, Alli and her astonishingly, talented teachers and staff, implement the Music Together® philosophy; a model that engages parents in musical participation, with the belief that such will foster growth and musical behavior by their children at home. Alli believes that us, the parents, are our children’s very best teachers.
Allisongs for Tots offers a creative, fun, informal, social setting that spurs engagement and supports each child’s musical development. With classes offered for varying age ranges, as well as family classes, where varied-aged children can attend together, it is almost a guarantee you can find a class that will fit into your family’s schedule.
I have participated in Allisongs for Tots with each of my three children, whose present ages are five, three and fifteen months. The musical journey was inspirational, yet unique for each of my children. My oldest — she loved the singing and the dancing. My middle son — he loved the instrument learning and playing. The baby — she loved all of it, especially the opportunities for socialization.
And you know what? Allisongs for Tots made a difference for me, the parent. I know you wouldn’t necessarily guess that, but these classes became just as much for me, as it was for them.
So, what is so amazing about your child learning through music? Let me tell you…
— Music stimulates both hemispheres of the brain.
— Music aids in language development & socialization.
— Recent research has supported that group singing creates a sense of well-being and community.
— Singing reduces stress.
— Early childhood music exposure has been linked to positive development in mathematical skills.
And what did I get out of an Allisongs for Tots class? Allisongs for Tots did the following for me:
— Taught me the importance of being silly — both for my children and for myself.
— Taught me that it’s okay if I, myself, or my children, “march to the beat of a different drum”.
— Reminded me how fun it is to sing, regardless of how your singing voice sounds.
— Showed me ways in which I can build and strengthen my child’s confidence,
— Allowed for me to connect with other mothers.
— Helped me to help my child learn how to participate in a structured, but flexible environment.
— Helped me provide my children with opportunities to learn how to take turns, share and basically just how to actively, and respectfully, engage with other children during an organized activity.
I could go on and on and on about my admiration for Alli and her whole team, in addition to the program they run. What you need to do now is check it out for yourself.
As a disclaimer to anyone that is wondering, this is NOT a sponsored post. I was not paid to write this review. Every single opinion in this post is my honest sentiment regarding my real-life experiences with the Allisongs for Tots program, three times over.
Allison Wilkins is quoted as saying “Music is life-giving! Music makes us feel good!” She backs this contention up with recent research, which suggests that endorphins are released in our brain when we sing.
Listen, written on the entryway of their studio is the quote “I don’t sing because I’m happy, I’m happy because I sing!” You want happy children? Then take them to an Allisongs for Tots class, ASAP. I promise you will not regret it.
