If People Had Hearts Like Dogs…

“What a beautiful world it would be if people had hearts like dogs”. — Author Unknown

If people had hearts like dogs:

… we would all be twice the humans we already are;

…we would relax more;

… we would be finding and filling empty spaces in others’ hearts more often;

…we would simply be there for others–not to say anything or try to fix anything, but to merely be at each others side to show that we care;

… we would lift others’ spirits in good times or bad times;

… we would make fools of ourselves more often;

… we would find solace in silent devoted companionship;

… we would forgive human err immediately;

…we would always have hope in our eyes;

…we would love others, more than we love ourself;

…we would always find a reason to laugh;

…AND all friendships would start by a “shake” with another.

Dogs are amazing creatures. They should be our role models.

A Letter to my Dogs —

Dear Mally and Jake,

To my  extremely smart, lovable, docile, cuddly chocolate brown lab: You stole my heart from the moment I saw you back in that mall pet store in 2006. Although you were my first “baby,”  there are now 4 others; your non-biological brother and the three two-legged littles. Still, my love for you remains stronger than ever and it is when I look at you that I am reminded to be a better human being.

To my extremely smart (although Daddy would disagree), lovable, docile, cuddly, stubborn and crazy yellow lab mix: Your zest for life has me in admiration. You bring joy to me with everyone of your licks.

To you both: I am thankful for your muddy prints on the floor, the dog hair on my clothes and the furniture, the slobbery kisses I receive and the paw and nose prints on the windows and doors.

I am beyond blessed that my dogs help me teach my children about respect, gentleness, tolerance, care taking, compassion, empathy and to have a voice.

“Folks will know how large your soul is by the way you treat a dog.” – Charles F. Duran
