When Baby Is Sick But There Is Work To Be Done

It’s hard when you don’t feel like a million bucks, but you want to. That’s me today.

The baby had a fever last night and the only place she was comfortable sleeping was right on top of my face. Relaxing, right? So, needless to say, today I am exhausted and a little bit grumpy. The fussiness from her fever yesterday evening also meant that no work would get done for me, during that time, which sadly, is usually the only uninterrupted and distraction-free time that I get on a daily basis.

You should know that the baby is well and fine and she just has a virus, like I suspected. But, still, attempting to work from home, when your child is sick and only wants YOU – and then more YOU and YOU and YOU, is tough.

So, you know what I am telling myself today? Do you know what it is that I want to tell to you — you hard-working, tired, grumpy, guilt-ridden moms? I want to tell you this:

— It is more than okay to not get everything on your to-do-list done.

— It is more than okay to cuddle and coddle the baby, when she needs it, instead of finishing your work.

— It is more than okay to take a day off from multi-tasking.

— It is more than okay to work at a slower pace today.

— It is more okay that your children are your number one priority.

Listen up moms! You may not look the greatest today. You may be wearing yesterday’s pants and you may have smudged eyeliner under your eyes because you never washed off last night’s makeup. You may also be binge-eating your protein bars cause you don’t have the time or personal space to finish a whole meal and you haven’t even touched a dish in the sink or switched that load of laundry.

BUT, GUESS WHAT?!?

YOU ARE STILL SUPERMOM…You are just a supermom who is doing less today because that is what the world wants from you today. Accept your fate for the day and let the guilt go.
